Estonia commits to invest in the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the Estonian government’s decision to invest €20 million in the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund (‘3SIIF’), alongside cornerstone investors Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (‘BGK’) and EximBank Romania. Once Estonia formally commits to the Fund, the total commitments will amount to €540 million.
3SIIF is a dedicated commercial fund targeting infrastructure investment in Central and Eastern Europe (‘CEE’). The Fund will invest in energy, transport and digital infrastructure in European Union (‘EU’) CEE member states which border the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas where the demand for long-term commercial investment into national infrastructure is among the highest in the EU.
Estonian Foreign Minister, Urmas Reinsalu said that the Fund will provide “A strong impetus for overcoming strategic shortcomings in infrastructure investments, particularly in domains such as energy security, digital networks and transport links”.
Estonian Finance Minister, Martin Helme added “Joining the Fund will provide our companies with additional opportunities for raising capital in the Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Adriatic Sea region. Estonia could have potential projects in all the focus sectors of the Fund”.
Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund, Beata Daszyńska-Muzyczka said “We’re very pleased that another country is joining Poland and Romania in the Fund. In such difficult times for our economies, it is especially important to focus on the longer term and stimulate infrastructure investments”.
